Hungary
The Republic of Hungary is a landlocked country in the Carpathian Basin of Central Europe, bordered by Austria, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, and Slovenia. Hungary is a member of OECD, NATO, EU, Visegrád Group and is a Schengen state.
Its territory is 93 036 km2, population is 10 035 000.
Its capital is Budapest, which is also the biggest town of the country. Other important towns are Debrecen, Miskolc, Szeged, Pécs, Győr, Nyíregyháza, Kecskemét and Székesfehérvár.
Slightly more than one half of Hungary's landscape consists of flat to rolling plains of the Pannonian Basin. Its lowest point is Gyálarét, near Szeged, which is 78 m high. The highest point is Kékes, 1014 m.
Budapest
Budapest, capital of Hungary, is also the country's administrative, economic, cultural, and scientific centre. Public transport network of the country is good.
Its main international airport is Ferihegy, located near Budapest. It offers direct connection to many towns in Europe, Asia, Africa and North-America.

You can pick up free maps and public transport maps at travel agencies, airports, bus and train stations, and tourist information booths.
Budapest has the most comprehensive public transport system, including buses, trams, metro/underground lines, and the HÉV, which are suburban commuter trains. If you want to get A to b there is an entertaining selection of routes from which to choose. The three metro lines are yellow (1st), red (2nd), and blue (3rd).The yellow line was the first underground line in continental Europe. At each stop you get a chance to admire the turn-of-the-century decor and a small historical exhibition. The HÉV connects the capital with surrounding towns and villages that make ideal destination for weekend excursion (e.g., Szentendre and Gödöllő). On the main bus lines there are night services that run between 11 pm and 4.30 am, naturally according to special timetable.
